I'm paraphrasing a bit of course, and maybe this seems a bit silly and presumptuous, but that's honestly the impression she gives me. Perhaps I'm being a tad overly analytical, but the fact she got bullied when she was younger for being "different" and has such a major interest in makeup seems to imply that she was once male and is trying to cover it up with makeup. There is some bits of dialogue in the game that seem to (very loosely to be fair) imply that she was male at one point and is trying cover up with makeup.
